Our stay in the Czech Republic

Our mobility started at the Poprad railway station at four o’clock on Sunday last week. Six students and two teachers. We were all full of excitement and anticipation of the Erasmus+ project that was taking us to the capital city of the Czech Republic for the week.

The journey took almost seven hours, but not once did we feel bored. We chatted the whole way, we even had a nice dinner on board. We arrived in Prague in the late hours of the night. Our host families were there waiting for us. We said goodbye for the day and were already excited on what awaited us tomorrow.

On Monday morning we all gathered in the staffroom of Gymnázium U Libeňského zámku where the Czech, Danish and Lithuanian students were already waiting. The principal gave a nice speech about the school and welcomed us to Prague. 

We went outside and played games to get to know each other better. We also recieved badges with our names on them and our countries´ flag. Then we watched a short documentary on the Velvet Revolution in which we learned quite a lot of new things and information about an event, even though close to us that we didn’t know much about.

  We were then divided into random international groups of five or six. We were given envelopes which contained information and QR codes of places in Prague where we were supposed to take pictures with our group. It was a so-called “selfie contest”, the group with the best and most creative pictures was to win.

  We all had a laugh trying to think of poses and taking selfies at various Prague landmarks. It was a great and effective way to get to know the city better. At four o’clock our programme for the day ended. We met up at the Paladium shopping center. Some went shopping, some went to spend time with their host families and some went to explore Prague some more.

On Tuesday we met at Karlovo námestie where we started our walk of November 17th, the same place students of Prague universities marched for their freedom 30 years ago. We used applications on our phones to measure the distance we walked. It was a touching experience. We walked through Vyšehrad and all the way to Národní Trída where our walk had come to an end-and so did the students. We then split up and our task was to interview random people passing by what they know about the Velvet Revolution and their personal view on the subject. Then we went back to school to process the videos and make presentations which we were to present on Friday to the students of first and second year of study at Gymnazium. After school some of us went bowling and some went sightseeing.

On Wednesday we pretty much worked on our projects all day at school in our assigned groups. Since we were there up until 4 o’clock (like everyday), the school prepared a buffet for us to use and take from whenever we wanted, whether that was tea, biscuits or fruit.

  At 6pm we met up in front of the O2 Arena to watch the ice hockey game Sparta vs Kladno. We all really enjoyed the match, we even made the waiting in line to get into the stadium fun. The atmosphere was absolutely incredible since the stadium was completely full. For most of the foreign students it was their first time at a hockey game. Sparta won against Jaromir Jagr’s team 6:2.

Thursday was a more laid back day for us, we mostly did activities in school and worked in our groups, preparing for tomorrow’s presentations and for being and working as teachers.

We also uploaded pictures and videos to eTwinning and the Erasmus+ Facebook and Instagram page. As for the rest of the day we went out to explore Prague some more, the Czech students were very helpful with showing the city around to us, whether that was just simply getting round the city or showing us all the must-see places.

   Friday was the last day of our stay in Prague. We all presented our projects to the students of the Gymnazium. We took part in the debate with the ex-Minister of Labour and Social Affairs called Peter Miller who participated in demonstrations in November 1989. It was really unforgettable and interesting experience for us. Then we left school straight after this debate. Before we met up in the school again at 6pm, we had some free time to prepare food for the dinner at school.

So at 6 we all met up and had dinner together which was very nice. All the students, along with their host students, and teachers prepared various food like fried chicken (rezeň) or mayonnaise salad or even desserts like delicious cupcakes or sponge cakes. Then the Czech team gave all the other countries teams little gifts to commemorate our stay here in Prague. We even got Erasmus shirts in which we all took pictures together and Certificates of attendance, which was all so nice. That was our official goodbye.

After the dinner the Czech students decided to take us all to the disco near Vaclavske Namesti, so we all danced together to 80’s music and it was just perfect. That was when we really had to say goodbye to everyone. It was hard to let all the friends we made throughout the week go.

We met at the train station at 6am the following day pretty tired of the week’s activities. On the train we had time to reflect on the week and everything that had happened and all our new experiences.

I think I can safely say I speak for all when I say that we enjoyed the week as much as possible and we all had a time of our life in Prague, we thank Mrs. Kozubíková and Mrs. Kopinská for being there with us and for being just the best, and also our school for giving us such an opportunity.

Neveríme, že ste ešte nepočuli o programe Erasmus+. Je to projekt Európskej únie, ktorého cieľom je podpora vzdelávania mládeže v celej Európe. Poskytuje možnosť stredoškolákom aj vysokoškolákom študovať v zahraničí, ale aj absolvovať krátkodobé pobyty v školách v inom štáte. To umožňuje spoznať iné školské systémy, nadviazať partnerstvá v rôznych krajinách, zlepšiť si komunikačné schopnosti. Aj náš starý gympel je zapojený do tohto zaujímavého programu a vďaka nemu sme my, študenti, už v minulom školskom roku absolvovali týždňové stáže v litovskom Kaunase a v dánskej Kodani. Tretím stanovišťom sa pred pár dňami pre nás stala česká metropola Praha.

     Naša cesta sa začala v nedeľu na železničnej stanici v Poprade. Šiesti študenti a tri učiteľky. Všetci sme boli plní nadšenia a očakávaní. Cesta trvala skoro sedem hodín, ale aj napriek tomu sme sa ani chvíľu nenudili. Do Prahy sme dorazili v neskorých večerných hodinách, ale na stanici nás už čakali naše hosťovské rodiny. A my sme sa už nemohli dočkať zajtrajška.

     V pondelok ráno sme sa všetci stretli v zborovni Gymnázia u Libeňského zámku v Prahe 8. Už na nás čakali učitelia a študenti z Dánska, Litvy a domáci Česi. Celé predpoludnie sme sa v areáli školy hrali zábavné hry, aby sme sa navzájom lepšie spoznali. Všetci sme dostali odznaky so svojím menom a vlajkou krajiny, z ktorej pochádzame. Neskôr sme si pozreli filmový dokument o Nežnej revolúcii. Dozvedeli sme sa o tejto udalosti množstvo nových vecí.

     Ďalším bodom nášho programu bolo vytvorenie medzinárodných skupín. Dostali sme obálky s QR kódmi rôznych miest v Prahe, ktoré sme  mali zdokumentovať. Bol to veľmi efektívny a hlavne zábavný spôsob, ako spoznať Prahu. Skončili sme až neskoro popoludní. Určitou formou odmeny pre nás bola návšteva známeho obchodného centra Paladium.

     Nasledujúci deň sme sa stretli na Karlovom námestí. Tam sme začali našu cestu za spoznávaním udalostí 17. novembra. Áno, kopírovali sme tú istú trasu, ktorú absolvovali študenti pred tridsiatimi rokmi. Našou úlohou bolo urobiť rozhovory s náhodnými okoloidúcimi  o Nežnej revolúcii. Pýtali sme sa ich, čo o nej vedia a ako ich ovplyvnila. Všetko sme filmovali. Nasledovalo strihanie video materiálu a príprava 45-minútovej vyučovacej hodiny venovanej Nežnej revolúcii. Zároveň sme pripravovali poučno-zábavné kvízy a rôzne ďalšie aktivity pre našich budúcich poslucháčov.

     Celú stredu sme strávili v škole prácou na našich prezentáciách. Večer nás však čakal „bonbónik“. Stretli sme sa pred O2 arénou, aby sme si mohli pozrieť zápas českej hokejovej ligy medzi pražskou Spartou a Kladnom. Atmosféra na štadióne bola úžasná. Keďže Kladno je len pár kilometrov od Prahy, bolo to pravé derby. Vypredané, v hľadisku sedelo 17 000 divákov! No a my sme videli naživo hrať legendu svetového hokeja – Jaromíra Jágra. Väčšina z nás, najmä študenti z Litvy a Dánska, bola na hokeji prvýkrát v živote. Sparta vyhrala nad Kladnom 6:2.

     Štvrtok sme mali voľnejší deň. Dokončovali sme naše prezentácie na piatok. Tiež sme na etwinning, facebookovú stránku projektu a aj instagram dávali fotky a videá, ktoré sme urobili počas tohto týždňa. Potom nás domáci študenti zobrali pozrieť si najzaujímavejšie miesta Prahy.

     Je náš posledný deň v hlavnom meste Česka. Stávame sa učiteľmi. Prvákom a druhákom miestneho Gymnázia u Libeňského zámku predvádzame výsledky našej celotýždňovej práce. Nasleduje beseda s prvým porevolučným ministrom práce a sociálnych vecí vtedy ešte Československej republiky Petrom Millerom. V novembri 1989 bol členom štrajkového výboru a viedol robotníkov na  demonštráciách. Popoludnie sa už nesie v neformálnej atmosfére. Pre nás je pripravená úžasná hostina, na ktorej sa okrem iného podáva rezeň so šalátom, ale aj koláče od výmyslu sveta a výborné muffiny. Domáci českí študenti pre nás pripravili malé darčeky, aby sme nezabudli na tento fantastický týždeň v Prahe. Dostali sme Erasmus tričká a certifikáty o účasti. Záverečná diskotéka na hudbu 80. rokov bola už len čerešničkou na torte. Nebolo ľahké lúčiť sa so skvelými ľuďmi, s ktorými sme sa počas týždňa spriatelili.

     V sobotu cestou do Popradu sme vo vlaku spomínali na všetko, čo sme  zažili, aké krásne veci sme videli a čo nové sme sa naučili. Tento týždeň sme si všetci užili a to hlavne vďaka našim pani učiteľkám Andrei Kozubíkovej Daniele Kopinskej. Patrí im veľké ďakujeme. Taktiež ďakujeme nášmu starému gymplu, že sme sa mohli do tohto projektu zapojiť a zažiť jeden z najlepších týždňov v našich životoch.
